In 2023, I met Cody while golfing with a few friends, and we've stayed in touch ever since. When he asked me to help with the branding for Ford's Pancake House, I was thrilled to dive into the project. The goal was to create a brand identity that felt genuine and authentic to Cody’s roots in Pineville, LA, capturing the warmth and charm of a classic, hometown pancake house. We wanted the brand to feel welcoming, down-to-earth, and full of character, just like Ford’s Pancake House itself.

We wanted the logo to feel as genuine and authentic as the story behind Ford’s Pancake House, so a hand-drawn logo was the perfect choice. Cody sent over a few images, and the concept of a literal pancake stack with a house on top stood out as a clear and playful way to illustrate the 'Pancake House' name. The hand-drawn style gave it a warm, welcoming feel, while still maintaining a professional look. To complement this, we used a bold, modified Changa One font, which adds a modern touch without losing that down-to-earth vibe.

Ford's Pancake House Gives Back
Beyond branding, Ford's Pancake House is making a real impact in the Pineville community. This past Christmas, they chose 25 families across three local elementary schools to provide Christmas presents and meals. Ford’s Pancake House truly embodies the values of the community that raised Cody, and the branding reflects that same authenticity and heart.

Color Palette & Typography
Color Palette & Typography
For the color palette, we chose red as the primary color to represent love for the community, aligning with the non-profit’s mission, while also capturing the classic feel of an American pancake breakfast diner. To complement this, we incorporated a deep navy blue, inspired by the Louisiana state flag, which added a sense of heritage and contributed to the Southern roots of the brand. We also introduced a golden hue to represent the warmth of pancakes and a rich brown for syrup, completing the palette with colors that feel authentic, welcoming, and nostalgic.

For the typography, we selected the Changa One font. We wanted the font to complement the red color by feeling classic, bold, and a bit playful. Changa One brought a welcoming vibe to the brand, helping us create a balance between a nostalgic diner feel and an inviting, approachable character. The boldness of the font added impact while maintaining a fun, friendly tone that perfectly suited the brand’s mission and roots.

Brand Summary
Brand Summary
Working on the Ford's Pancake House branding was a truly special experience. Not only was it great getting to collaborate with Cody—especially since we’re huge Bengals fans in our house—but more importantly, I had the opportunity to create something that’s making a real difference in people’s lives.

One of the most enjoyable parts of this project was drawing the logo by hand, crafting an authentic and nostalgic look that perfectly fits the old-school diner vibe we were going for.

I’ve always wanted to work on restaurant and diner branding, and this project allowed me to bring that vision to life in a way that went beyond just selling pancakes. Ford's Pancake House is a brand with heart, giving back to the community, and I’m excited to see all the good this organization continues to do in the future.
